6 reasons to attend a mental wellness retreat

A year ago, I got laid off from my tech job and, despite financial uncertainty, I signed up for a $3000+ yoga retreat in Isla Mujeres, Mexico.

Similarly, two years prior, during a sick leave for depression, I went on a $2500 yoga surf retreat in Costa Rica.

These choices may seem extravagant, but I knew deep down that my mental well-being was worth every penny. While these decisions might seem unconventional for someone without a steady income, I prioritized my mental health knowing the potential long-term benefits outweighed the short-term financial strain.

Fast forward to today, I have never regretted these investments. Last month, I finally paid off the retreat on my monthly plan (more on this below), and although it was scary living off savings for a year, I still believe that money can be replenished later, but time can’t.

As someone who’s struggled with a few relapses of depression and anxiety, I can tell you now that I never want to spend months or years in that darkness again. No one wants to feel like shit, but life happens and we’re still human and learning how to cope, imperfectly. And this is different from the concept of meditation of sitting with your emotions and going through the journey of your feelings. I’m not talking about minutes or hours of discomfort or spiral thinking, I’m talking about days and weeks spent in bed, with zero energy to wash your face, brush your teeth, shower, eat properly, and do, think or plan anything.

A retreat isn’t the cure for depression and anxiety (because you should always consult a medical professional about what works for you), but it can be one of the multiple pillars that can support your mental health like the foundations of a house.

The yoga retreats I’ve attended helped me a lot despite not being 100% mental health struggle-friendly (as I wrote in my last post, that most people ended up on yoga retreats, not because they love yoga, but because they needed a mental health break.) That’s why I created this mental wellness retreat, catering to exactly these people, going through these things.

More on payment plans 💰

The yoga retreat I attended offered payment plans that allowed me to participate in an amazing experience while feeling financially capable and comfortable. I want to carry forward this amazing gesture to my participants because it truly is a win-win for everyone. Here is how the payment plan can work, for example, for a Triple Occupancy room

$2500 (triple occupancy room price) minus $500 (deposit to book your spot) = $2000 USD, which is the remaining amount to pay. You can choose to pay this in monthly payments, in x months:

    • Example 1: If you're paying in 3 payments starting today, the monthly amount is $667 USD, and your last payment is on April 21st 2024 (first day of the retreat). This comes to about $20 a day.

    • Example 2: If you're paying in 6 payments, the monthly amount is $334 USD, and your last payment is on July 21st 2024. This comes to about $10 USD a day.

Note: payment plan is only available with credit cards where we can set up monthly automatic debits with my travel agent partner.
